One piece of news that slipped through the cracks a bit last week when I was on vacation, but: The Beavers have added another defenseman to the roster for the 2017-18 season.
Andover native Tyler Vold signed a national letter of intent last Wednesday and intends to join BSU’s roster for next season.
Vold spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL. This season he had 36 points (6 goals, 30 assists) in 59 contests. He’s also a team captain for the Wilderness, who are still in the league playoffs (in fact, he had an assist in last weekend’s Central Division Semifinal win over the Brookings Blizzard).
The 5-foot-10, 168-pound defender gives the Beavers even more defensive depth for next season. They graduated just one blueliner — Carter Struthers — and considering their team defense was one in the best i the country, having another solid D-man as an option is only going to help BSU.
Vold joins a couple players who already signed NLIs. Forward Brendan Harris and defenseman Bradley Johnson both signed back in November of 2016, while Ethan Somoza signed in 2015 but deferred enrollment.
