The Bemidji State men’s hockey team will once again have a large freshman class next season.
After signing two recruits (Tommy Muck and Ethan Somoza) the early signing period in November, the Beavers announced Wednesday that five more players have inked National Letters of Intent. That brings BSU’s incoming class to seven — which is the same amount as last year’s class.
Anyway, I’m not sure how many of these guys I’ve talked about on the blog but I’ve Tweeted about all five in some way, shape or form. All five committed to BSU earlier this year.
There’s one goalie (Jack Bugart), a defenseman (Zach Whitecloud) and three forwards (Brendan Harris, Dylan McCrory and Hampus Sjohdal).
The five players come from five different junior hockey leagues, which makes things a bit difficult. None are from the USHL (although Muck and Somoza did play there this season), but we have one representative each from the NAHL (Sjohdal), BCHL (Harris), AJHL (McCrory), SJHL (Bugart) and MJHL (Whitecloud).
In other words, that’s the pan-Western Canadian coalition there, even though McCrory is from Quebec and Harris is a Vegas native (to keep that pipeline to the desert going with the departure of Cory Ward).
Bugart was the goaltender of the year in the Saskatchewan league, while McCrory was the sixth-leading scorer in the Alberta league and was the league’s playoff MVP. Sjodahl was the third-leading scorer in the NAHL.
Anyway, there’s a quick recap of the new recruits. Just for future reference, here’s a directory of all of BSU’s known future recruits and commitments. If you know of any more that I’m missing, shoot me an email.
