If you want God to laugh, tell him your plans. Once again, I forgot to put this blog up earlier. I will try to make it quick. For real this time.
WAYNE STATE AT BEMIDJI STATE
Game Time: 1 p.m. Saturday
Stadium: Chet Anderson Stadium
Radio: WMIF 92.1 The River
Television: KBSU Ch. 17
-My preview on the Wayne State game, talking about how turnovers (obviously) will be key to BSU’s success following last weekend’s loss.
-The Sioux City (Iowa) Journal has a feature on WSC linebacker Jared Curry, who switched from offense to defense as a freshman and has excelled this year.
Also of note, Bemidji State linebacker Buckley Wright hails from Sioux City and the article has a short little sidebar on him.
In case you were wondering, Wayne, Neb., is in the very northeast corner of Nebraska and only about an hour from Sioux City. It’s about two hours from Sioux Falls.
–Wayne State is also not to be confused with the Wayne State in my home turf of Michigan. The former Wayne is in a town of 5,660, is only a College and has a student population of 3,571. The latter Wayne is a University in the heart of Detroit and has a student population of 32,564. They went to the national title game last season.
Not that you, the reader would get confused, since you’re used to them. But it sure confused me at first, as my brother is an alumnus of the Detroit institution.
I’ll spare you the full NSIC article roundup (because finding information on all 16 schools is time consuming). But here are the games for this week. Full roundup here:
Minnesota, Crookston (0-2) at Augustana (1-1), 1 p.m.
Upper Iowa (0-2) at MSU Moorhead (0-2), 2 p.m.
Sioux Falls (2-0) at Minot State (0-2), 2:30 p.m.
Northern State (0-2) at Winona State (1-1), 4:30 p.m.
U-Mary (2-0) at Southwest Minnesota State (1-1), 5 p.m.
Minnesota State (2-0) at St. Cloud State (1-1), 6 p.m.
Minnesota Duluth (2-0) at Concordia-St. Paul (1-1), 6 p.m.
There isn’t one marquee game this week, at least, not one that you circle and say, “I WANT TO WATCH THIS ONE!” like last week’s Duluth/Winona matchup. If I had to pick a GOTW, it would have to be MSU-Mankato vs. St. Cloud. The Huskies are looking for a marquee win after their opening-season loss to Sioux Falls. MSU, on the other hand, looks to keep rolling after dominating Bemidji last week.
I’d also keep an eye on the Sioux Falls/Minot game, if only because it’s the first meeting of the two conference newcomers. I can’t see that one being much of a game and I think USF improves to 3-0, but it could be an interesting battle.
