Reading Room: New Hockey Commitment, Mankato Coach Leaves For UNO And Other Hockey Hijinx

Some news and notes from the Bemidji State hockey world, because I may forget to post these at the start of football season:

Chicago Steel forward Charlie O’Connor has committed to play for the Beaver hockey team in 2013. The Elk Grove Village, Ill., native collected 29 points (10g, 19a) in 58 games with the Steel in 2011-12. He’ll join another former Steel player on the roster in Philip Marinaccio, who will play for the Beavers this season.

Looks like Minnesota State and Nebraska-Omaha are swapping coaches. Former Mankato coach Troy Jutting will switch Mavericks next season as an assistant coach in Omaha. According to the Mankato Free Press’ Shane Frederick, Jutting was the head coach at Minnesota State for 12 years and spent the previous 10 as an assistant. MSU, of course, recently named former UNO Mike Hastings its head coach.

Bemidji State head coach Tom Serratore will participate in the Herb Brooks Leadership Conference Sept. 15 in Blaine.

Finally, former Beaver Matt Read got to meet Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis when they were promoting their latest film in Philly. I could break this down for you, but you should just watch it.
